Nearly 27,000 Refugees Return to Afghanistan from Pakistan and Iran in Past Six Days

KABUL -- The High Commission for Solutions to Refugee Problems reported that 4,835 refugee families, comprising 26,962 individuals, returned to Afghanistan from Pakistan and Iran over the past six days.

The returns occurred via the Torkham, Spin Boldak, Islam Qala and Wesh border crossings between last Thursday and Tuesday.

Returnees received registration, transportation, financial assistance, short-term accommodation and awareness sessions on conditions in the country, the Islamic system and refugee issues.

In addition, 5,449 families totaling 29,376 people were transferred to their original homes.

Cash and other aid was provided to 4,505 families.
