Malaysian Prime Minister Says Country Examining Recognition of Taliban Administration

KUALA LUMPUR (Afghan Verified) — Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim held a phone call on Thursday with Taliban Prime Minister Mohammad Hassan Akhund to discuss regional developments, particularly tensions between the Taliban and Pakistan.

Ibrahim posted on X about consultations aimed at reducing the tensions, expressing hope that they would subside. He voiced support for mediation efforts by Turkey, Qatar and Saudi Arabia.

In the same post, Ibrahim announced that Malaysia would continue providing humanitarian aid to Afghanistan. He stated for the first time publicly that his country is examining recognition of the Taliban administration.

No Islamic country has recognized the Taliban administration, with Russia the only country to have done so, according to Ibrahim.
