Kazakhstan's ShalkiyaZinc company signed a contract with the Afghan-German Bakhtar company for the import of zinc ore from Afghanistan. The contract specifies the annual import of about 30,000 tons of zinc ore. The value of the contract is 18.88 million dollars, and the ore is meant to supply Kazzinc factories.

The contract signing took place during the opening of the Kazakhstan Trade House in Kabul. It was part of a visit by a high-level Kazakh delegation. The delegation was led by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Economy.

Trade volume between the two countries reached over 541 million dollars in 2025. A target has been set to increase the trade volume to 3 billion dollars. Kazakhstan views Afghanistan as a market with expanding opportunities in mining, agriculture, and construction.
