Islamic Emirate Allocates Residential Plots in Nangarhar for Kunar Earthquake Displaced Families
The Ministry of Urban Development and Housing has distributed residential plots to 2,500 families displaced by a recent earthquake in Kunar province. The land is located in a newly constructed township spanning 500 acres in the Gambari area of Khewa district, Nangarhar province.
The resettlement initiative follows a directive issued in November 2025 by the supreme leader of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan. According to ministry officials, the township is equipped with planned infrastructure designed to support long-term recovery and community development.
The allocated site includes paved roads and designated zones for essential public facilities. These include a school, a religious seminary, a mosque, a health clinic, and a cemetery. The layout aims to provide a structured environment for the relocated households as they rebuild their lives.
During the distribution event, Minister of Urban Development and Housing Mawlawi Najib addressed the beneficiaries and outlined the broader objectives of the relocation program. He stated that the Islamic Emirate intends to transition earthquake-affected families from reliance on humanitarian aid to becoming active contributors to society.
The ministry emphasized that the provision of permanent housing and local services is a critical step toward achieving self-sufficiency for the displaced communities. The relocation marks a significant phase in the government’s post-disaster response strategy, focusing on permanent settlement rather than temporary shelter.
