Iran's Foreign Minister Thanks Afghanistan's 'Government and People' for Condemning US, Israeli Attacks

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi posted a message on X thanking the Taliban and the people of Afghanistan for condemning U.S. and Israeli attacks and expressing solidarity with Iran.

In the message, published during the holy month of Ramadan, Araqchi thanked the "government and people of Afghanistan" for standing alongside Iran against what he called "aggression." He also expressed hope that peace and stability in Afghanistan would remain sustainable.

The reference to the Taliban as "government" comes amid Iran's unclear official stance on recognizing it. The charge d'affaires of the Iranian embassy in Kabul had previously said Tehran would soon recognize the Taliban. However, an Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson later stated that the issue "is not currently on the agenda."

Iran has maintained political and economic interactions with the Taliban in recent years but has not officially recognized it as Afghanistan's government.
