Iran's Foreign Minister Says US Seeks Help from China, Others to Secure Strait of Hormuz
Iran's Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araqchi stated that the US "security umbrella" in the region has proven ineffective, prompting the United States to request assistance from other countries, including China, to secure the Strait of Hormuz.
In a post on X dated March 14, Araqchi wrote that the situation demonstrates US security support has caused more problems than deterrence. He added, "The famous US security umbrella has proven to be full of weaknesses."
Araqchi also called on Iran's "brotherly" neighbors to expel foreign aggressors from the region.
The remarks come amid an ongoing war between Iran and the United States, with rising concerns over insecurity in the Strait of Hormuz and increasing oil prices.
US President Donald Trump has threatened that if Iran does not halt its attacks on ships in the strait, Iran's oil infrastructure on Kharg Island will be targeted. In response, Iran has warned that any US strikes on its oil infrastructure would lead to the immediate destruction of oil and energy facilities belonging to US-related companies.
