TEHRAN — Shina Ansari, Iran's vice president and head of the Environmental Protection Organization, announced the continuation of negotiations between Iranian officials and the Taliban on water shares for the Hamun wetland.

Ansari told the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) that agreements reached so far have been oral, but productive discussions have occurred.

"Based on the 1351 agreement regarding the supply of water rights to the Hamun wetland, the minimum water needs must be supplied, which we are currently pursuing seriously so that this agreement remains sustainable and is implemented," she said.

Ansari emphasized that Iran's water share must be provided in a structured manner.

According to her, Sistan and Baluchestan province near the Afghan border is facing water problems due to the lack of water allocation, affecting local livelihoods.
