Iranian Governor Says 300 Afghan Migrants Rescued from Snow and Cold in Northeast Border Areas
Hossein Jamshidi, the governor of Taybad in Iran, announced on Tuesday, 28 Dalu, that at least 300 Afghan migrants stranded in heavy snow and severe cold in hard-to-pass border areas in northeast Iran have been rescued.
Jamshidi stated that these individuals were identified upon their illegal entry at border points in northeast Iran and subsequently deported to Afghanistan. He did not provide specific details on the exact time or location of the incident.
The governor warned that Iran's borders remain unsafe for any illegal entry by Afghans, emphasizing that violators will face firm legal action.
This rescue and deportation occur amid Iran's ongoing intensification of border monitoring and control measures, which have led to the arrest and expulsion of Afghan residents in the country.
The International Federation of Red Cross stated on January 26 that more than 3.6 million Afghan migrants returned from Iran alone last year, with 1.2 million of those returns classified as deportations.
