Iranian drones struck Azerbaijan’s Nakhchivan International Airport early Thursday, injuring two people, Azerbaijani authorities said.

Azerbaijan’s foreign ministry confirmed the attack targeted the airport, which lies about 10 kilometers from the Iranian border in the autonomous Nakhchivan region. Reuters, citing a source in the Azerbaijani government, reported that missiles and drones fired from Iran hit a terminal at the airport.

Following the incident, Azerbaijan’s foreign ministry summoned Iran’s ambassador in Baku to lodge a formal protest.

The event occurs amid intensified fighting between Iran and the United States-Israel alliance across the Middle East. Tensions between Iran and Azerbaijan have fluctuated in recent years, particularly over security concerns near their shared border and regional geopolitical rivalries.
