Iranian border police seize weapons near Afghan border in Taybad

Iranian border police in Khorasan Razavi province announced the discovery of a shipment of weapons and military ammunition in the Taybad border area. Taybad is located 18 kilometers from Dogharoun on the border with Afghanistan. Police did not specify the origin of the weapons shipment.

Majid Shoja, commander of the Khorasan Razavi border guard, stated that the operation occurred on the evening of Sunday, 3 Hoot, as part of efforts to prevent weapons from entering Iran. Shoja said the action followed intelligence reports regarding the entry and concealment of a weapons shipment in the Taybad border region.

According to the border police announcement, the seizure included eight pistols, 16 magazines, 12 explosive grenade projectiles and one 40mm fragmentation grenade.

Shoja added that the shipment was hidden at the border to be transported further into the country by other individuals. Authorities have obtained leads on the transporters and are continuing efforts to identify and arrest them.
