Iran Launches Missile Attacks on Southern Israeli Cities Near Dimona Nuclear Site
Iran launched missile and rocket attacks on southern Israeli cities, including areas near the Dimona nuclear facility, injuring dozens to hundreds of people and causing building damage.
Reports on casualties varied. Bakhtar News cited Israeli media reporting more than 200 injured, with dozens in critical condition. Khaama Press, quoting Agence France-Presse, said at least 20 people were hurt. ToloNews reported Israeli health officials stating at least 70 injured in Arad with severe building damage, and more than 30 near Dimona. Ha'im Boblil, commander of southern Israel police, described the scene in Arad as chaotic, with over 50 injured transported and at least three multi-unit buildings severely damaged.
The attacks struck near Dimona, associated with Israel's nuclear program. Iranian officials described the strikes as retaliation for earlier attacks on facilities in Natanz, according to Khaama Press.
U.S. President Donald Trump warned Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours or face strikes on its power plants, per Khaama Press and ToloNews. Ibrahim Zulfaqari, spokesman for Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, responded that any U.S. attack on Iranian energy infrastructure would prompt targeting of U.S. and Israeli energy and information technology facilities in the region.
Saudi Arabia ordered five Iranian embassy staff, including the military attaché, to leave within 24 hours in response to Iran's attacks on Saudi soil, according to ToloNews.
