International Religious Scholars Visit Kabul to Review Education Sector

A delegation of religious scholars from Turkey, Kenya, Burkina Faso, Nigeria, Mauritania, and Serbia visited Kabul in April to assess Afghanistan’s education sector and hold discussions with officials of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan. The visit, led by Nigerian religious figure Askiyan Khabara, aimed to evaluate on-the-ground conditions and explore avenues for expanded cooperation.

During meetings with government representatives, Khabara emphasized that the reality in Afghanistan contrasts sharply with portrayals frequently circulated in Western media. He attributed varying perspectives among Islamic nations to unverified reports and media narratives, stating that direct observation provides a clearer understanding of the country’s current situation. The delegation outlined objectives focused on strengthening Islamic unity, supporting local development initiatives, and fostering long-term educational and cultural partnerships.

Political analyst Jannatfahim Chakri noted that the visit offers a direct channel for communicating Afghanistan’s actual conditions to the broader Islamic world. He suggested that firsthand assessments by international religious figures could help bridge informational gaps and encourage more informed regional engagement.

The delegation’s itinerary included site inspections and consultations with education authorities. Officials from the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan welcomed the visit as a step toward reinforcing ties with Muslim-majority countries and highlighting progress in domestic sectors. Both sides expressed interest in continuing dialogue to align educational frameworks with regional standards and promote collaborative academic programs.
