India defeated Afghanistan by seven wickets in the opening one-day international in Dharamsala. Afghanistan were all out for 194 runs in 24.5 overs after India won the toss and elected to field. Rahmanullah Gurbaz scored 102 runs, surpassing 200 sixes in his One Day International career. Gurinder Brar and Harshdeep took three wickets each for the Indian side.

India chased down the target in 22.5 overs, losing three wickets in the process. Hashmatullah Shahidi made 27 runs, reaching 2,500 runs in ODIs and becoming Afghanistan's fourth-highest run-scorer in the format.

The teams will meet again for the second match on 27 Jawza 1405 in Lucknow and the third match on 30 Jawza 1405 in Chennai.
