KABUL (Afghan Verified) -- Officials of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) emphasized national unity and openness to engagement with other countries during a ceremony in Kabul marking the 37th anniversary of the Soviet defeat on Feb. 14, 2026.

The event commemorated the withdrawal of Soviet forces from Afghanistan through the Hairatan border on Feb. 14, 1989, after nearly a decade of war.

Defense Minister Mullah Mohammad Yaqoob Mujahid urged Afghans to adopt a broad perspective beyond provinces or ethnic groups, honoring those who follow Allah's path. He stated that the IEA has no ill intentions toward neighboring, regional, or international countries and will not allow Afghanistan's territory to be threatened.

Mujahid highlighted current security achievements, saying threats originating from Afghanistan have been contained without external assistance. "Just do not create problems, do not look for pretexts, and do not attempt to defame Afghanistan. If you seek engagement, come forward -- the doors are open," he said.

Deputy Prime Minister Mullah Abdul Salam Hanafi stressed that unity ensures the continuity of the Islamic system. "If our nation remains united, the current system will never be weak," he said, adding that Afghans have historically defeated aggressors despite displacements.

Minister of Hajj and Religious Affairs Sheikh Noor Mohammad Thaqib warned of a harsh response to those with malicious intentions. "We seek a life of peace and security and will not allow anyone to threaten the safety of Afghanistan or the wider world," he said.

Deputy Minister for Higher Education Sheikh Zia-ur-Rahman Aryoubi noted that since the IEA's re-establishment, nationwide security has been ensured, protecting people's religion, property, and honor. He added significant progress in political, economic, educational, and military sectors.
