Herat resident launches mobile 'Book Courier' to deliver books to homes
Ghulam Farooq Mahmoodi, a resident of Herat city, has launched a mobile "Book Courier" initiative aimed at delivering books directly to homes in the city and surrounding districts.
Mahmoodi invested around 500,000 afghanis to purchase nearly 2,000 books across various fields. The service targets neighborhoods and remote districts, seeking to reduce the distance between people and books. It also promotes a culture of reading and provides a livelihood for Mahmoodi's family.
The initiative has received positive feedback from local cultural figures, residents and officials. Jalil Ahmad Joyanda, a local cultural personality, commended the effort for its contribution to promoting reading.
Poya Ahmadi, a Herat resident, expressed support for the service, noting its value in making books accessible.
Mawlawi Abdul Mateen Adil, head of culture and arts at the Herat Department of Information and Culture, described the launch as an important step toward fostering literacy and cultural engagement in the province.
