Floods Kill Three and Damage Homes Across Afghan Provinces, UN Agency Reports

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said heavy rains and flash floods struck multiple Afghan provinces including Laghman, Nuristan, Ghazni, Nangarhar, Kapisa, Logar, Paktia, Paktika and Parwan.
At least three people died and four others were injured in Laghman province, according to the agency. The floods damaged or destroyed 183 homes, ruined 800 jeribs of farmland and killed or affected nearly 310 livestock.
In Nuristan province's Parun district, 120 families were identified as needing urgent aid, with 92 families already assisted. The agency noted that hundreds of families overall were affected by the flooding and landslides.
OCHA warned that the floods and landslides may have displaced mines and unexploded ordnance from past conflicts, increasing the risk of explosions for residents and humanitarian workers in the affected areas.
