Flooding in Badakhshan Gold Mine Kills Three, Traps Others

Taliban officials in Badakhshan province reported that flooding in a gold mine in Sharbuz district killed three people before noon on Friday, 21 Hamal. The victims included a father and son from Yawan district, with more than 100 workers present in the mine at the time.

Some workers remain trapped under water and debris, and rescue efforts are ongoing. Abdul Rashid Rashad, the Taliban district governor, stated that the exact number of trapped individuals is unknown and warned of the potential for higher casualties.

A spokesman for the Taliban Police Command in Badakhshan confirmed the details of the incident, noting that over 100 people were working in the mine when the flooding occurred.

The officials attributed the accident to the lack of standard mining practices in the country.
