Five Afghan Migrants Killed in Strike West of Tehran, Iranian Official Says
Five members of an Afghan migrant family -- a father, mother and children aged 3, 11 and 13 -- were killed in an overnight strike on residential areas in Shahriar, west of Tehran, Iran's deputy political and security chief for the area said.
The attack occurred at around 3:10 a.m. on Monday, the official told Tasnim news agency. Four Iranian citizens also died in the strike, which completely destroyed three houses and caused heavy damage to four other homes and several vehicles.
The incident adds to growing concerns over the safety of Afghan migrants amid expanding conflict in Iran, where more than four million Afghans reside.
Earlier reports mentioned six Afghan family members killed in strikes on Rey, south of Tehran, and one Afghan killed in Varamin.
