In a post on its X account on Friday, February 13, 2026, the EU noted that radio reaches areas inaccessible to other media and holds particular importance for informing and educating Afghan women and girls. "On World Radio Day, we honor radio as a vital line for informing and educating across Afghanistan," the EU stated.
The organization emphasized its support for independent, informative and educational media in Afghanistan to expand public access to reliable and educational information.
Media support institutions have long stressed that backing accessible media like radio is essential for raising public awareness, providing education and empowering Afghans, particularly women and girls, amid current conditions.
