EU Mission Extends Eid al-Fitr Greetings to Afghans

The European Union’s mission for Afghanistan has extended Eid al-Fitr greetings to the people of the country via a post on X.

Published Wednesday night, the message congratulated Afghans on the end of Ramadan with the sighting of the moon, wishing families peace, happiness and comfort. It expressed hopes that the holiday would bring a new season of light, joy and calm after a month of fasting and prayer. The EU mission stated it stands with the people of Afghanistan "today and every day," reaffirming solidarity with ordinary Afghans.

The greetings come amid severe economic pressures, with many families unable to celebrate Eid normally due to rising poverty. Since the Taliban’s return to power, Afghanistan has faced deepening economic hardship, shrinking job opportunities and heavy dependence on humanitarian aid. This has placed added strain on households during major religious events.

International organizations have warned that millions of Afghans remain in need of assistance, struggling with unemployment, food insecurity and declining purchasing power.
