Kabul (Hasht-e Subh) — The United Nations Security Council last week issued a resolution extending the mandate of the committee monitoring sanctions against the Taliban for another year.

Asif Durrani, former special representative of Pakistan on Afghanistan affairs, said the extension indicates international security concerns. In a post on X on Sunday, February 15, Durrani wrote that the one-year renewal reflects growing international worry about Afghanistan's security path under Taliban rule.

"Afghanistan today is at risk of becoming a hub for transnational extremism. The presence of more than 20 terrorist groups on its soil means the threat is not limited to its borders," Durrani stated.

He cited a recent suicide bombing in Islamabad as evidence that terrorist groups retain the ability to conduct operations. "The world has learned at a heavy cost that ignoring early warning signs can have catastrophic consequences. This warning is not mere rhetoric, but based on lived experience," he added.

Durrani warned that the world must stay vigilant, emphasizing that Afghanistan's stability is crucial for the region and the world.
