Construction Begins on Cargo Truck Terminal in Balkh Province
Construction has officially commenced on a new cargo truck terminal in the Hairatan border area of Balkh province. The project, funded at a cost of 850 million Afghanis, is scheduled for completion within two years.
The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Deputy Minister Mullah Abdul Salam Heydari and Balkh Deputy Governor Mawlawi Noor al-Hadi Abu Idris, who highlighted the facility’s role in enhancing regional logistics. Officials stated that the terminal is designed to streamline commercial transit and improve transport infrastructure across northern Afghanistan.
According to project specifications, the site will include a two-story administrative building, organized parking areas for freight vehicles, and dedicated workshops for maintenance and operations. The development is expected to facilitate smoother cross-border trade and reduce congestion at one of the country’s busiest commercial crossings.
Mullah Abdul Salam Heydari emphasized that the terminal will serve as a key node for economic activity, supporting local businesses and increasing revenue through more efficient cargo handling. Mawlawi Noor al-Hadi Abu Idris noted that provincial authorities will coordinate with relevant ministries to ensure the project remains on schedule and meets established quality standards.
The Hairatan crossing has long been a critical gateway for imports and exports, linking Afghanistan with neighboring trade routes. The new terminal aims to modernize existing facilities, accommodate growing freight volumes, and provide structured services for transport operators. Once operational, the site is projected to significantly reduce processing times for commercial vehicles and strengthen supply chain reliability in the region.
