Congestion of Iranian cargo trucks continues at Dogharoun border on Afghan side

An Iranian media outlet, Shahrara News, reported on Saturday that congestion of cargo trucks persists at the Dogharoun border crossing and on the Afghan side, despite some measures to improve traffic flow.

The Iran-Afghanistan Joint Chamber of Commerce stated that coordination between executive institutions and the creation of a new return route from Islam Qala to Dogharoun has reduced waiting times for cargo trucks at the Dogharoun border terminal to two to three nights.

However, more than 1,000 Iranian cargo trucks remain stuck at Islam Qala customs on the Afghan side, with drivers facing several nights of delay before entering Afghanistan. The chamber identified the main traffic bottleneck as being on the Afghan side.

The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is following up on the issue and has requested local Taliban officials in Herat to cooperate by increasing reception capacity and accelerating the passage process.

Dogharoun is a key commercial crossing between Iran and Afghanistan, and disruptions in truck traffic can impact the flow of exports and transit goods between the two countries.
