Carpet Washing and Trimming Facility Opens for First Time in Badakhshan

A carpet washing and trimming facility has opened for the first time in Faizabad, the provincial capital of Badakhshan.
The facility owner said the workshop has eased the work for local carpet weavers. "I brought carpet trimming, washing, and drying machines and made them operational here. From now on, God willing, carpets produced in Badakhshan will be trimmed, washed, and dried at this center."
Prior to the facility's establishment, carpet weavers had to transport their products to Kunduz or Kabul for washing and trimming, incurring high costs and significant time delays.
Carpet weaver Roida said: "Previously, we did not have access to trimming and washing machines, and we had to send our carpets to Kunduz and Kabul."
Another weaver, Malika, added: "The activation of carpet trimming and washing machines has created many facilities for us, because we previously did not have access to them and were forced to send our carpets to other provinces."
The Badakhshan Department of Industry and Commerce stated it has supported dozens of handicraft workshops in cooperation with organizations, particularly carpet weaving centers.
Abdulbatin Zaheri, head of industrial parks at the department, said: "We support all kinds of activities related to carpet weaving and handicrafts. This year, foreign organizations supported this sector, providing both cash assistance and equipment and machinery."
According to the department, more than 1,000 women are currently engaged in various business activities across the province.
