International media reported that armed individuals attacked three villages in Niger State in northwest Nigeria, killing at least 30 people.

Reuters reported on Saturday night, February 14, that the attackers arrived on motorcycles early Saturday morning in villages in the Borgu area near the Republic of Benin border. They set houses and shops ablaze and conducted sporadic shooting.

According to the report, some residents were kidnapped, and many villagers fled their homes fearing the attackers' continued presence.

The Niger State police spokesperson confirmed that six people died in one of the villages, with details of the other attacks under investigation.

Armed groups known as 'bandits' have conducted deadly attacks and widespread kidnappings in northwest Nigeria in recent years.
