Afghan migrants gathered in front of the Afghan embassy in Tehran on Thursday to protest recent arrests of women and girls in Herat and other provinces.

The demonstrators described the detentions as arbitrary violations of human rights. They called on the United Nations, international institutions and governments to take action against the suppression of women.

Local sources said the Taliban governor of Herat met with passport lawyers and tribal elders to prevent possible gatherings on Friday. The officials asked those present to report any planned protests.

Taliban forces set up checkpoints in areas including Jibraeel in Herat to monitor movements and check mobile phones.

UNAMA expressed concern over the treatment of protesters. It stated that a teenager was killed by gunfire, several others were injured and another death report is under investigation.

Reliability assessment

Single source with concrete details including specific location (Tehran embassy), timing (Thursday gathering), named actor (UNAMA), and local sourcing for Herat events; core protest event and UNAMA statement are directly attributed.

The source language mixes facts with framing or advocacy wording. Amu TV: "suppression of women", "arbitrary", "clear violation of human rights, human dignity, and the fundamental freedoms" — these phrases frame the Taliban's actions with strong negative judgment and advocacy language rather than neutral reporting.
