Iran's Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araqchi stated that recognizing Iran's right to enrich uranium is essential for the success of nuclear negotiations with the United States.

Araqchi emphasized that "zero enrichment" is unacceptable for Iran and that enrichment must be for peaceful purposes only. "Zero enrichment is never acceptable for us," he said. "Therefore, we must focus on talks that accept enrichment inside Iran while building confidence."

The remarks came as US and Iranian diplomats held indirect talks in Oman on Friday to revive diplomacy. The discussions occurred amid an increased US military presence in the region and Tehran's warnings of a strong response to any potential attack.

Iran and the US conducted five rounds of nuclear negotiations last year, which ended without a final agreement due to disagreements over uranium enrichment within Iran.

Araqchi's comments, reported by Reuters on February 8, underscore the ongoing impasse in the talks.
