Afghanistan and Qatar Discuss Municipal Cooperation Between Kabul and Doha

Suhail Shaheen, Acting Head of the Embassy of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in Doha, met with Abdullah bin Hamad bin Abdullah Al Attiya, Qatar’s Minister of Municipalities, to discuss expanding bilateral cooperation between the municipalities of Kabul and Doha.
The talks focused on road construction, overpasses and underpasses, enhancing technical and managerial capacities, and other urban development issues. Shaheen stated: “In this meeting, we discussed cooperation between the municipalities of Kabul and Doha, the construction of overpasses and underpasses, water treatment facilities, capacity building, and other related issues.”
Economic analysts expressed optimism about the potential benefits. Sayed Masoud said the cooperation “encourages better and more effective progress and provides strong support for investment, alongside a kind of modernization movement for these cities.” Abdul Nasir Rashtia told TOLOnews: “The transfer of technology and experience that can help work on infrastructure is, in my view, a very positive development for Afghanistan, because Qatar has sufficient experience in construction and infrastructure.”
Abdul Zahoor Modabber added: “If the experiences of successful countries like Qatar are implemented in Afghanistan, the results could benefit citizens, families, and consumers.” Analysts highlighted Qatar’s expertise in urban planning, traffic management, modern construction technologies, and workforce training as particularly valuable for Kabul, provided discussions lead to practical implementation.
Over the past two decades, Qatar has advanced significantly in urban and infrastructure development through investments in modern road networks, overpasses, public transportation systems, and smart urban management.
